British Library Labs Awards Competition 2016 - Terms and Conditions

This British Library Labs Competition (“Awards Competition”) is operated by the British Library Board of 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB, United Kingdom, (“We” “Us” and “Our”). “You” and “Your” shall mean you, the person or persons entering the Awards Competition.

1. General

1.1 If You enter the Awards Competition You are deemed to have agreed to abide by all of the following Terms and Conditions together with any amendments thereto (both of which are non-negotiable) under which the Awards Competition is run, and to be bound by them. We may disqualify You without prior notice if You are in breach of any of these Terms and Conditions or any revised Terms and Conditions that We may from time to time impose.

1.2 We reserve the right to cancel the Awards Competition at any stage if We deem this necessary or circumstances arise that are outside Our control.

2. Entries

2.1 The Awards Competition is open to all excluding:
2.1.1 employees or contractors of the British Library or their direct family members; and
2.1.2 any person/s directly or indirectly involved in the British Library or the running of the Awards Competition, or their direct family members.

2.2 Entry is free.

2.3 You can either enter as an individual or as part of a team.

2.4 Applicants must be aged 18 years or older.

2.5 To enter the Awards Competition, You must:
2.5.1 submit Your entry(s) in accordance with the Awards Competition brief via the British Library Labs website; and
2.5.2 ensure that:
i. Your entry(s) is original;
ii. Your entry(s) does not in any way infringe or misappropriate the copyright or other intellectual property rights, or other rights of any third party;
2.5.3 state the category (Research, Artistic, Commercial and Teaching / Learning) for which you are submitting Your entry. You may submit your entry(s) in more than one category; and
2.5.4 tick the box to accept these Terms and Conditions when You submit Your entry(s).

2.6 All entries must be received by midnight BST on 5th September 2016. Any entries received after this time will not be considered. We cannot be held responsible for:
2.6.1 ineligible or fraudulent entries; or
2.6.2 any lost or late entries, due to the Internet, email or otherwise, even where proof of sending can be provided.

2.7 We will select a shortlist of entries between 6th September and 21st of September 2016. If Your entry(s) is on this shortlist, You will be informed via email by midnight GMT on 21st September 2016 and invited to the BL Labs symposium (“Symposium”) held at the British Library Conference Centre, St Pancras, London on 7th November 2016.

2.8 One winner and one runner up for each category named in 2.5.3 above will be chosen according to the judging process outlined in, and will be announced at the BL Labs Symposium held at the British Library Conference Centre, St Pancras on 7th November 2016. It will not be possible to notify those entrants that do not win.

2.9 Each winner and runner up in the individual Award categories (Research, Artistic, Commercial and Teaching / Learning) will be awarded a prize (“Prize”) of £500 for winning and £100 for being a runner up in each Awards category
as detailed at Awards Competition Their work will also be highlighted at the Symposium.

2.10 The judging panel’s decision shall be final, and no correspondence shall be entered into.

2.11 Each winner accepts and agrees that:
2.11.1 the Prize must be taken as stated, and cannot be deferred, exchanged or redeemed for its value;
2.11.2 no alternate to the Prize will be available.

3. Rights and permissions

3.1 All entrants accept and agree that We may publish details of Your entry(s) on Our website at Our sole discretion.

3.2 If We are unable to contact any winner after making reasonable efforts to do so, or the Prize is unclaimed after 10 working days of Us notifying a winner then the Prize will be deemed to have been forfeited, and We reserve the right to offer the Prize to another entrant.

3.3 In the event that You are a winner:
3.3.1 the Prize will be provided to You, subject to the following requirements:
i) written agreement on the details of the Prize and any results therefrom, including, but not limited to, intellectual property rights, and the obligations of the parties concerned.
For the avoidance of doubt, in the event that the above requirements are not met, the Prize will be deemed to have been forfeited, and We reserve the right to offer the Prize to another entrant.
3.3.2 you agree to:
i) participate in any publicity planned by Us, if required; and
ii) allow the posting of Your details on Our Website

4. Personal Data

4.1 Other than as expressly permitted by these Terms and Conditions, We will only use Your contact details for the purposes of administering this Awards Competition, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without Your permission.

4.2 You consent to Us:
4.2.1 holding and processing data relating to You for legal, administrative and management purposes; and
4.2.2 making such information available to Our funding bodies.

4.3 Any personal data relating to You will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to another party without Your prior consent. Please see Our Privacy Statement for further details.

4.4 Data relating to You will be retained by Us for a reasonable period after the closing date specified in clause 2.6 to assist in the administration of the Awards Competition in a consistent manner and to deal with any queries on the Awards Competition.

5. Applicable Law

5.1 These Terms and Conditions and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter or formation shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law.

5.2 The parties will attempt in good faith to resolve any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms and Conditions promptly by negotiation. If the dispute cannot be resolved by negotiation, You hereby submit to and agree that the sole jurisdiction and venue for any claim or matter that may arise under or relation to these Terms and Conditions or their subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be the English Courts.
